A Brother’s Murder

A Brother’s Murder
Grief Without Routine
Élisa’s brother is murdered while visiting their mother in Algeria. The loss destroys the routines that once gave her days structure and meaning.
Unable to continue working as a care aide, Élisa withdraws from her job, her daughter, and ordinary self-care. Her grief becomes a place she inhabits rather than an emotion she can leave behind.
A First Recovery

A First Recovery
The Clinic as a Turning Point
After deteriorating at home, Élisa is hospitalized and gradually begins to regain a foothold. Sainte-Blandine becomes associated with the hardest and most decisive phase of her recovery.
When distress resurfaces, she returns voluntarily, but seeing other residents in pain makes her recognize that she wants to live. Her energy is genuine, though traces of despair remain visible beneath it.
An Energetic Ally

An Energetic Ally
Provocation as Care
At La Bulle, Élisa jokes, flirts, and urges the other residents to reclaim life. Her irreverence interrupts the atmosphere of medication and silence without denying the suffering beneath it.
She welcomes Bénédicte and offers her affection in a form that is direct and unembarrassed. By encouraging others, Élisa also rehearses her own determination not to surrender again to grief.
